Public Space One turned sixteen and held their annual art auction. This is Mustard-In-Law’s submission. 16 sprawling tracks (3.5 hours) on three clear tapes & an infinite LOOP tape, dedicated to your quest for small ‘a’ art. Compiled by Tyler for our favorite art spot, with original collage cover by Jay.
The Blick Iowa City staff was invited to exhibit at St. Ambrose University, in Davenport, Iowa….
Lation showcase at Liquid Smoke cigar bar Murfreesboro Art Crawl on the town square.
These are related screenshots, for I was unable to attend.
I helped organize a community exhibit of bird art at Blick Art Materials in Iowa City. Portions of art sales were donated to the R.A.R.E. Group, a local non-profit dedicated to raptor rehab and community education. We raised almost a thousand bucks! On the final day of the sale, R.A.R.E. brought in an owl and a kestrel for a live drawing session. For our submission, Tyler and I each printed a bunch of shirts full of bird patterns.
Iowa City’s Public Access Television Station, PATV, asked me to exhibit some work for their monthly event, PATV Underground. My CAT SHOW went up on the first day of the Iowa ArtsFest, and displayed until the end of June.
At the gig, Mustard-In-Law performed in the TV studio, in front of an audience, and live streaming on PATV’s YouTube channel. We played with a green screen behind us, and brought an appropriate video to key in….
Once again, our beloved PublicSpaceOne called on the doers of do to raise funds with an art auction, and Mustard-In-Law dripped up to the plate with a six tape box set.
We provided a listening station and easy access to the contents.
The booklet was six feet long!
Although the physical release went to the highest bidder, you can download the entire 9-hours (!) of audio, along with high-quality beeps of the super-long booklets at this link here: mustard-in-law.bandcamp.com/album/dear-future Any money made from these downloads goes straight to PS1, to keep small a art alive in our town.
Listen & weep……………………………………………
Also, I sold this glistening painting of mine.
The winner now knows everything we know, may they live forever in mustard.
I helped organize and set-up this animal-themed art show and silent auction.
We raised over $3,000 for the local animal center.
Mustard-In-Law pieced together this giant assemblage of discarded materials for the Pitch In! exhibit at Public Space One.
Awkward Portal was an auction by and for our beloved local art community space, Public Space One. In addition to contributing a painting to the auction, Mustard-In-Law made a special four-tape box set, named Awkward Portal.

Three exhibits featuring my work all occurred at the same time within a block of each other, coincidentally during both the Iowa Arts Festival and the Iowa City First Friday Gallery Walk.
• Textiles women’s clothing store is showing a full array of my paintings and collages for 3 months.
• Iowa Artisans Gallery has a postcard-sized exhibit with a few of my pieces included.
• Blick Art Materials had an employee show, with even more creations from my hands.
A watercolor piece I contributed to the third annual Art for Access event, hosted by the Iowa Abortion Access Fund. Proceeds help provide access to women’s health services.
SPACE JAM was a 4-day event during Mission Creek, occupying the area above the Deadwood bar in Iowa City. Included was a family portrait studio, zine-making supplies and a copy machine, and a zine-reading lounge accompanying the exhibit of zines by many artists (including tons contributed by me from our Zine A Day project). Check out pics of all the zines at instagram.com/s_p_a_c_e_j_a_m/
Seongyun Park invited me to perform as the house DJ for her BFA painting exhibit reception at the University of Iowa Studio Arts Building. See more of her paintings at seongyunpark.com

Open House Art Show, hosted by Phoebe Martin, from Skogman Realty, featuring four local artists. With my art, I filled a space that was once a little boy’s bedroom.
Governor’s Mansion asked me to display some art for a few weeks in the room where many events are hosted. In addition to showing all kinds of random creations on paper, I provided a tape player and 40 cassettes with album covers and / or sounds made by me.
For the third annual Dark Slide skateboard art show, I painted a deck with Pebeo solvent-based effect paint. The exhibit featured loads of great Iowa artists, and was up for a month at the Dubuque Area Arts Collective gallery.
Here are some bags I dyed and printed for the United Way of Johnson County Women’s Leadership Circle’s Power of the Purse silent auction. All money went to Iowa City’s first Summership program, which gives money to kids so they can attend summer programs they would otherwise be unable to afford.
FilmScene asked me to create an award that would be presented to Terry Gilliam, a life-long influence on my creative mindset.
The Dubuque Area Arts Collective invited me to do “something interactive” at the reception for their annual 60-artist exhibition, SALON. What I came up with was “video portraits” – instant manipulations of a live camera feed showing reception attendees. Here are some screenshots..
